I just joined Last.Fm. Is this one of those things that I put my friends names in or they put mine it to share music?

The best way, imo, to get anything out of Last.FM is to set it
up to scrobble from wherever you listen to music now (desktop,
mobile, etc) and give it a few months. THEN go back to it and
explore once you've got some content.
I like the My Strands guys. Especially because in Barcelona they
put on a great party but I didn't easily find their download. And
their website is a bit rough around the edges.
They're nice guys, I've tried the app several times over the
past few years, back when I had the N73, and I just can't see much
benefit over the built-in music app.

bought me a bunch of beers so the least I can do is try their
software on my phone. I did write a review on my blog after I used
their service while at CTIA. I think I will dl it now. Thanks
Try an 8gb Ricky. ;) The nokia music player takes at least 45
seconds to launch. Social Player takes 3. That go itself is reason
enough for me. Add scrobbling, recs, rec previews, user play
history browsing, etc and there's really no reason not to use it.
Btw, they completely changed the way the library is built. Took
about a minute on my slow ass 8gb over 3g.
I've got it loaded up, @Zacharye, before you give me more

me, cause it only tracks stuff I listen to on my phone, which is
only ~1/4th of my music listening experience.
Mobbler is the best for last.fm; if it could launch and
initialize as soon as music player started it would be perfect.
Ya know, would be neat if the S60 music player app just became a
platform for plugins. Not saying that additional players are a bad
idea; but having the extendability to change the UI, add connected
services, etc. would be nice to see built into how the default app
handles things.
I never really 'got' last.fm. Is the 'My Neighbourhood" feed
meant to be the one that plays based on what you've listened to in
the past and what they think you'll like? I much prefer Slacker's channel system; it's much
more intuitive. Plus, with the Slacker Portable, I can take the
music with me, even when I don't have an Internet connection.
Whereas last.fm always requires you to stream.

the same thing as Last.FM? Tracks what you listen to, then makes
recommendations based on that.
MyStrands is supposed to not just be social recommendation, but
social DJing within it. The point is community listening if you
will, which ends up being the same as last.fm until you throw a
party and MyStrands is DJing the entire thing.

my favorite. I even bought the portable player after trying out
their software player for a while. The one thing last.fm as going
for it over Slacker, though, is the SoNet aspect. Of course,
everyone I've just sent friends requests to on last.fm are all
"Very Low" or "No Match" in music tastes... Heh.
I listen to a buttload of music (there's rarely a time of the
day that I don't have SOMETHING on) and I like
Last.FM more just to keep track of my listening habits, honestly.
It's cool to go back and see what I've listened to.
Is there a social aspect to Last.Fm? If so then can you guys add
me so I can check out some new music. If not then I guess I'm just
going to listen to a bunch of random music.
I've been playing some stuff out of iTunes tonight just to get
last.fm to learn some stuff. But during the day at work, I usually
have the Slacker software player going and they can't scrobble
plays from that. Truth is, I don't have all that much music in
iTunes -- I mainly use it to listen to podcasts. I've got hundreds
of CDs, but long ago gave up on dealing with physical media and
prefer something that just feeds me music I like (e.g., Slacker)
rather than me having to go find it.

you can 'recommend' songs to your friends. They can also see your

Just added you, @JebBrilliant. I didn't really
start using Last.FM until recently, on my Internet Tablet,
honestly. That's the best interface, specifically Canola.
I use mobbler and it works like a charm, but when U guys talk
yourself warm about Mystrands application I have to at least check

the items is a plus sign, with my friends after it. That stands for
add my friends. ;)

Still looking for a LastFM client for the s60 that recognises
DRM'd WMA files. I rarely listen to stuff on the computer but do
use Creative MP3 players. If something worked well on the N95 I
would use it so much more. So far LastFM and Mystrands are just
good concepts for me. Agree that Mystrands guys are really nice
though

I pony up for a subscription? Yet other people

Mobbler is the best for last.fm; if it could launch and initialize as soon as music player started it would be perfect.
Ya know, would be neat if the S60 music player app just became a platform for plugins. Not saying that additional players are a bad idea; but having the extendability to change the UI, add connected services, etc. would be nice to see built into how the default app handles things.
